Abstract

The experiments was carried out to study the effect of spacing, planting methods and mulching on growth and floral parameters in gladiolus (Gladiolus hybridus L) cv. American Beauty at the Department of Horticulture, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore during both Kharif and Rabi seasons of 2007-08 and 2008-09. The experiments consisted of eight treatments with three replications were carried out by Randomized Complete Block Design. The experiment comprised of single row 30 x 20 cm and 40 x 20 cm with mulching and no mulching and double row 30x 20 x 60 cm and 40 x 20 x 80 cm with mulching and no mulching. The present investigation reveals that, there was an improvement in the growth and floral parameters in gladiolus in 30 x 20 cm spacing with mulched plots treatments. Improved growth, flower yield and corm yield were observed in plastic mulched plots irrespective of different levels of spacing, planting methods adopted.

Abstract

The experiments was conducted to study the effect of plant density, planting methods and mulching on floral and cormal parameters in Gladiolus (Gladiolus hybridus L) cv. American Beauty during both Kharif and Rabi seasons of 2007-08 and 2008-09. The experiments consisted of eight treatments with three replications, respectively were carried out by Randomized Complete Block Design. Days taken for spike emergence and first flower bud opening on the spike was, significantly less number of days (50.26 days) in T7 (40x20 cm, paired row mulching) followed by T1, T3, T5 (50.73, 51.27 and 51.63, respectively). The number of florets produced per spike, flower weight, flower yield per spike flower, yield per hectare recorded maximum in mulched plots with 30x20 spacing. There was increase in number of florets per spike, floret weight, floret yield per plot and per hectare was due to mulched plants i.e. T1, T3, T5 and T7 with single and paired row in both Kharif and Rabi season. The mulched plants like T1, T3, T5 and T7 with single row and paired row treatments showed significantly more number of corms, weight of corms, cormel number and cormel weight in mulched plots in both Kharif and Rabi seasons, respectively.

Abstract

Nurturing character strengths values and gratitude in class rooms is one of the best ways in which we can empower the children to build a strong personality to face the challenges m the outside world and also help in nation building. Many of us are the result of sub-par education systems. Systems that teach us how to get a career and earn a wage – but not how to be truly happy and live a life at our full potential. Efforts have been made m this study to bring out the necessary factors which contribute to a positive school environment, where children grow into their full potential mentally physically and intellectually. An effort was made to collect the data from the views of eminent educationalists, their books, direct interaction with participants etc. A comes to the conclusion that there are certain values that are extremely necessary for life, but which are generally ignored by modern system of education and Positive education is closely linked to character strengths and values, which help the children widen their horizon.

Abstract

The method of self-organizing maps (SOM) is a method of exploratory data analysis used for clustering and projecting multi-dimensional data into a lower-dimensional space to reveal hidden structure of the data. The Self-Organizing Feature Maps (SOFMs) [11] is a class of neural networks capable of recognizing the main features of the data they are trained on. There is extensive literature on its biological and mathematical concepts and even more on its implementation in a variety of areas including medicine, finance, chaos and data mining in general [4,2]. The aim of this research is to implement a self-organizing neural network based technique for speech recognition. The Mean-SOM performance for the feature Intensity is obtained maximum as 98.17%. The Median-SOM performance for the feature Intensity is obtained maximum as 98.54%.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the etficacy of Behavioural Techniques to reduce the alcohol drinking behaviour among adolescent. During this phase of development, adolescents begin the transition trom childhood to adulthood. Issues of independence, identity, sexuality, and relationships define this developmental stage. They also experience mental health problems like, anxiety, depression etc .these issues along with other stress and inability to tackle leads to problem drinking in adolescents. Helping adolescents to build up self-esteem and over-come mental health problems along with preventing them from becoming addicts of alcoholism was the main objective. We used the questionnaire Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (1971); for screening of problem drinking, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (Hamilton, 1959); in order to determine the level of anxiety. Beck Depression Inventory (Beck, 1961); and Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965) in order to determine the level of Global SelfWorth indicating both positive and negative feelings about the Self. This is the study of ten adolescents of Maritime Academy, Cochin College and de-addiction centre. Cochin. The drinking problem of the subject was assessed by Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test. Pre intervention assessment of anxiety. Global Self-Worth indicating both positive and negative feelings about the Self by using Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, and Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale respectively. The subjects were administered the Behaviour Technology Module and were reassessed after the period of eight weeks. The results of the study is statistically significant and indicates that the subject experienced significant reduction in alcohol drinking; significant improvement in overall wellness by decreasing in the level of anxiety and had shown significant increase in self-esteem.
